Yamaha Outboard Service ManualIn 1972, Yamaha began development on a line of Enduro models designed and engineered with durability and quality to withstand extremely demanding use and conditions. The first Enduro model to emerge was named the "E8," and it was soon followed by the E15, E25, E40 and E48.

In 1981, Yamaha began develop on a leisure line of outboards, and by 1983, the Yamaha outboard lineup in the United States grew to 12 2-stroke outboard models ranging from 40hp to 220hp.

In 1984, the first 4-stroke Yamaha outboard motor was released. The 1998 100hp F100A offered the highest horsepower and environmental performance in its class, followed by the ground breaking 225hp F225A, at that time the highest horsepower rated 4-stroke outboard in the world. Today Yamaha offers outboards ranging from 2hp to 425hp.

Yamaha 4-Stroke Outboards

Since the launch of the first Yamaha 4-stroke outboard motor in 1984, detail spec variations have catered to industry needs on models in areas like transom length, tiller handles, remote control units, starting systems, etc., to fit specific uses or use environments and different types of boats. Yamaha offers the industry's largest number of variations, at more than 180.

Yamaha 4-stroke outboard motors are designed and engineered with the same dedication to durability, reliability, light weight and compactness that Yamaha 2-strokes have long been famous for.

With the V6/4.2 liter series models, big advances in weight reduction were achieved compared to previous big horsepower models. This kind of advanced Yamaha engineering was officially recognized when the F250C model of the VMAX SHO series for bass boats, released just before the new V6s, received the coveted Innovation Award from the US's National Marine Manufacturers Association in 2010.
