Chrysler purchased West Bend Outboards in 1965. Chrysler / West Bend Outboards were also sold under brand names: Commodore, Firestone, JC Penny, Sea King, Viking, and Wizard among other companies and brands they manufactured outboards for.
Chrysler Outboard Boat Motor Model Identification
Chrysler Outboard Model and Year Guide
Locate Chrysler outboard serial number plate by looking on your motor's transom mount.
Figure 1 shows the motor serial number and model number on an identification plate attached to the support plate on the starboard side. Always indicate these numbers in all correspondence to properly identify the motor and to ensure that the correct parts and service literature are obtained when ordered.
About: Chrysler West Bend Outboards
- Chrysler started out in the Marine business by making special versions of its car engines for other marine manufacturers beginning in 1926
- Chrysler bought out boat motor manufacturer West Bend Outboards in 1965. This first year they were known as Chrysler/West Bend outboard
- Chrysler entered the boat and outboard market with the 1966 model year
- Chrysler Outboard Division was sold to Bayliner's - U.S. Marine
in 1984
- US Marine marketed their outboards under the FORCE brand name
- U.S. Marine sold their outboard brand in 1988 to Mercury Marine
- Some Chrysler outboard designs were continued as Force outboards, but by 1996 Mercury Marine was discontinuing the Force brand, production ended in 1999
- Chrysler / West Bend Outboards were also sold under brand names: Commodore, Firestone, JC Penny's, Sea King, Viking, and Wizard among others.
