About: Fedway and AMC Saber Outboards

The Saber Outboard Motor was a brand name that was sold by Fedway and AMC. The Fedway Saber brand was sold in 1953, and the AMC Saber brand was sold in 1955 and 1956, which was the last production run for Saber. Fedway and AMC Saber Outboards were all manufactured by Gale Products / OMC (Outboard Motor Corporation).

Federated Department Stores subsidiary "Fedway" had been created in 1951 to take advantage of southward population shifts, and began offering the Saber outboard line in 1952. Federated sold its Fedway chain to competitor "Dillard Department Stores" in 1971.

Associated Merchandising Corp. (AMC) sold AMC Saber outboards with their subsidiary Aimcee Wholesale Corporation under the AMC brand. Their business name changed to Amcrest Corporation in 1970.

Associated Merchandising Corporation (AMC), Aimcee Wholesale Corporation (AWC), and Federated Department Stores Inc. (Federated/Fedway) are related in that AMC is a New York corporation organized in 1939, the stock of which was owned by various department or specialty stores, including Federated with subsidiary Fedway. AWC is a New York corporation organized in 1946 being a wholly owned subsidiary of AMC.
